چکیده

coral reefs which form some of the most diverse ecosystems on earth support many symbiotic relationships. symbiodinium can provide up to 90% of a coral.s energy requirements. temperature rise, turbid water and high salinity in the persian gulf were among the factors separating zooxanthellae from corals and result in bleaching phenomenon. therefore, it is crucial to identify symbiodinium of the persian gulf corals. since zooxanthellae identification according to morphological characteristics is not precise enough, today, symbiodinium different clades are identified using molecular techniques. in this study, symbiodinium of genus acropora as a dominant scleractinian coral in farur island, northern persian gulf were identified using molecular techniques. for this reason, sampling from depth of 7-10 meters was carried out. after dna extraction, the target gene which was large subunit ribosomal rna (28s rdna) gene was amplified, using polymerase chain reaction (pcr). then the amplified fragments analyzed, by sequencing, and symbiodinium clade was identified, using phylogenetic tree, and the situation of considered clade and its phylogenetic association with other studied samples in iran and other parts of the world were defined. the results showed that clade d was the only symbiont of acropora off farur island. since clade d is the most resistant clade against environmental changes, it is natural to identify this clade from symbiodinium in persian gulf specific conditions.

Molecular diversity of Symbiodinium spp. within six coral species in Larak Island, the Persian Gulf

Reef-building coral harbor communities of photosynthetic taxa of the genus Symbiodinium (zooxanthellae). The genus Symbiodinium is currently classified into nine genetic clades (A–I). Various corals harbor different Symbiodinium clades; some show specificity to a single strain. Coral and their zooxanthellae are sensitive to environmental stresses. In the Persian Gulf, coral reefs are subject to...

Short Term Growth Rate of Acropora downingi in the Coral Reef of Hengam Island, the Persian Gulf

In the Persian Gulf, Acropora- dominated coral reefs have been damaged by global and local disturbances. Inversion of coral colonies mostly occur due to anchoring and fishing in many coral reefs, particularly those established nearby human societies, like the coral reef of Hengam Island, in the Persian Gulf. The short term growth rates (weight increment) of inversely and normally transplanted c...

Identification of Ascidians (Tunicata: Ascidiacea) around Larak Island in the Persian Gulf

Despite the variety of marine organisms recorded from the Persian Gulf, acidians located along the Persian Gulf have not received much attention. We collected Ascidian samples from four sites along  Larak Island (Persian Gulf) using Scuba diving and snorkeling at a depth that ranged from 5-15 m. Taxonomic identification was carried out by authoritative keys and texts. We found 4 species that be...

Genetic diversity of symbiotic dinoflagellates in the genus Symbiodinium.

Coral reef ecosystems, one of the most biodiverse habitats in the world, owe their success to obligate mutualistic symbioses involving invertebrates and photosynthetic dinoflagellate symbionts (Hallock 2001). These single-celled algae, commonly referred to as zooxanthellae and predominantly belonging to the genus Symbiodinium (Fig. 1), establish relationships with numerous hosts, including repr...
